How far in advance should I apply?

Although we ask that you apply for a program at least 3 months in advance, we understand that is not always possible. If you are interested in leaving in less than three months, please contact a Program Manager to see whether we can accommodate your request.  1-512-904-1137 or info@aideabroad.org

Which programs am I eligible for?

Depending on the destination, you must be able to apply for the required visa.  Please check visa requirements for the specific program in which you are interested in the “Eligibility” section.  Please keep in mind that AIDE Abroad does not set visa regulations;  those are enforced by the respective countries.

If I’m not from the USA can I still apply?

Yes! We welcome applicants from all over the globe. Please check the eligibility for the specific program you are interested in, to ensure you meet all visa and program qualifications. If your country is not listed on our application as a choice of citizenship, you are not eligible at this time.

What is the payment process for our programs?

Please click here for the details on the payment process.

Can I sign up with a friend or significant other?

Yes!  You can certainly plan to travel with a companion.  Depending on the program, you may be placed in different projects or accommodation, but you will still have plenty of opportunities to share your international experience.

How many other AIDE Abroad participants will be on my program with me?

This depends on the time of year and your destination.  A few projects can only host two to three participants at any given time in order to ensure that the experience is worthwhile.  We will put you in touch with other AIDE Abroad participants who will be in-country at the same time.

Do I need previous experience?

Depending on the program, you may need some experience.  For Internship programs, you must have some educational or professional background in your field of interest as well as intermediate language skills.  (We can always arrange language classes to help you brush up if necessary.)  For Teach programs, you have to be a native speaker.  For Work programs, some customer experience is always a plus.  For Volunteer and Learn programs, no previous experience is required, just an open mind and a positive attitude.

Can I get paid on my program?

That depends!  On our Work programs you will be paid.  On our Teach China program you will also be paid.  Unfortunately, all Internship placements are unpaid due to visa restrictions.

Can I get academic credit for my program?

Yes!  While we are not an accredited institution (like a university) and thus cannot issue credit ourselves, many universities offer credit for AIDE Abroad programs as an independent study.  This is a great option to pursue and we will work with you and your advisor to provide any documentation you need to get credit through your school.  AIDE Abroad’s programs are often less expensive than traditional study abroad opportunities and you get work place experience to boot!

Can I talk to past the participants who have been on the program?

Of course!  We can put you in touch with our past participants who would be more than happy to speak with you about their AIDE Abroad experience.

What are my chances of being accepted to program?

If you fulfill the eligibility requirements for the program you are applying for, and we have availability, you have a high chance of being accepted!  Upon review of your application materials and phone interview, we will let you know whether you have been accepted.

How does the orientation work?

AIDE Abroad provides you with orientation materials before your departure that will help you prepare for your journey, arrival, and program.  With a couple of exceptions, most AIDE Abroad programs provide in-country orientations upon arrival.

Does my program include insurance?

Yes!  Your program fee includes Travel Medical Insurance throughout the duration of your trip.  If you wish to extend your coverage after your program ends, we can certainly arrange that for you for an additional fee.

We can also provide workplace liability insurance if you are interested.

What travel documents will I need?

Your passport!  Many countries require at least 6 months remaining validity, so please check the expiration date carefully.  Some programs require visas prior to departure, and we can help you apply for those if you are eligible.

Is airfare included?

Although airfare is not included in your program fee, we can assist you in finding affordable resources for airfare.

Are any vaccinations required before traveling to my program?

AIDE Abroad does not require proof of any vaccinations. However, we do recommend that you visit your doctor before traveling to receive any necessary immunizations and medicines you might need. More information about health risks and precautions about traveling abroad can be obtained online at the following websites:

What safety precautions are in place for participants?

AIDE Abroad works with in country coordinators who provide 24/7 support during your program. Should any problems arise, please contact them first and also let your Program Manager as soon as you can.

What is the process if an emergency occurs?

You should immediately contact your in country coordinators as well as calling the AIDE Abroad emergency line: 1-866-6ABROAD. The in country coordinators will be able to respond faster, but we will do our best to resolve any problems as quickly as possible.
